Quantity Surveying: private practice vs contractor–could the grass be greener?

By Mackenzie England

Date and time

Thu, 9 Nov 2017 18:00 - 20:00 GMT

Location

200 SVS

200 St Vincent Street Glasgow G2 5RQ United Kingdom

Description

The world of surveying is diverse and can take you in many directions; having chosen to become a Quantity Surveyor, your choice of employer will determine and define the role you perform.

Whether you work in private practice or as part of a contractor’s in-house team the role of Quantity Surveyor may look similar from the outside, but it is distinctly different. If you started your career on one path, you may know little about what ACTUALLY happens on the other side of the fence. You may have never given the alternative consideration as a career development move, potentially for the wrong reasons. But how do the roles and the environment actually differ? What are the benefits of being in a private practice and why may working with a contractor suit you … or not!? What options are there for your career and why should you at least consider the “other side” as part of your professional development?

Mackenzie England invite you to join us at 200 SVS for this panel debate to hear from Quantity Surveyors from both private practice and contractor environments as they discuss their roles, experience and career development. At this event in association with RICS Matrics and CIOB NOVUS, you will have the opportunity to participate in the debate and discover for yourself if the grass could be greener on the other side of the QS fence.

The event will open with networking drinks and canapes at 6pm with the debate kicking off at 6.30pm.

This event is free to attend and open to all interested parties, however spaces are limited so please register here to participate in this opportunity to question, engage with and learn from fellow Quantity Surveyors and construction professionals. After registering to attend, you will be invited to submit questions for the panel to contribute to the debate on the night.
